The result is unpredictable; at first you
will look worse; there can be no guarantee; you may
not be pleased; symmetry is impossible; you may be
disappointed; there will be problems; some things
cannot be fixed. This is true of everything.
can expect going into this surgery that there will
be problems. Though we
do our best to minimize and avoid them, there will
be problems. We do not know what the problem(s) will
be exactly. Everyone who
has surgery has some problem.
As Norman Vincent Peale has said, "The only
people who have no problems are in the cemetery".
Some of the problems that everyone has are swelling,
discomfort, discoloration, tenderness, numbness, and
distortion, all of which are unequal on the two
sides of the face. During the healing phase, whether
it lasts weeks or months, all of these factors may
cause the person to feel embarrassed and
Frequently treatment such as injections and touch-up
procedures are required.
Usually it takes months or a year or more for all of
the swelling to go away and the tissue to return
back to normal.
